Young man from Boynton Beach must defend against theft charge

Most people learn from a young age that stealing is wrong. However, at the same time, many people will admit to committing theft at some point in their lives, regardless of how miniscule the offense. Perhaps the theft was a lapse in judgment, or perhaps some people even feel they were justified in stealing. A big difference is that some people get caught, and others do not.

A 21-year-old Florida man now must answer to the court for his alleged offense. The young man was at a Dunkin' Donuts in Boynton Beach when he allegedly snatched a wallet out of the hands of the woman standing in line in front of him while she was waiting for her change. He is accused of fleeing to the parking lot, jumping in his car and driving away.

The woman says she chased him from the store and wrote down his license plate information. The police traced the car to the father of the accused, and the father watched a surveillance video from the store and apparently identified his son as the thief. The 21-year-old turned himself in to police approximately six and a half hours after the incident occurred.

Anyone can have a lapse in judgment that results in a poor choice. However, should that poor choice haunt the alleged offender for the rest of his or her life? Many of us would agree that everyone deserves a second chance, especially if the accused person is young. Individuals who are accused of theft crimes should not hesitate to explore their options for a strong criminal defense. It may be possible to negotiate for a reduction or even dismissal of charges.
