Pain clinic operators sentenced to 30 years in prison

A Florida judge ordered three people to serve at least 25 years out of 30-year prison sentences for operating a pain clinic in Tampa that dispensed controlled dangerous substances. According to the judge, the 4.5-month trial that was completed in March was the longest criminal trial that had ever taken place in Hillsborough County Circuit Court. Before they were handed the drug charges, the accused individuals had apparently been the subjects of an investigation since 2009.

A Florida appeals court ruled on Sept. 12 that the city of Maitland would not be allowed to seize a residence where marijuana was reportedly grown. The court reasoned that the forfeiture would constitute an excessive penalty. The owner of the home was charged with manufacturing and selling drugs.
