9 people taken into custody for drug-related crimes

On Aug. 31, it was reported that nine people were taken into custody in Lake Wales, Florida, after detectives executed two search warrants. According to the authorities, the accused individuals included seven adults and two juveniles. The individuals were taken into custody following a three-month search that was conducted by the Polk County Sheriff's Office and the Lake Wales Police Department.

Seven individuals were a 22-year-old man, a 38-year-old woman, a 33-year-old man, a 40-year-old woman, an 18-year-old man and two teenage boys, all of whom appeared to be Lake Wales residents. Six of the individuals were charged with possession of marijuana and several individuals faced additional charges for possession of cocaine and hydrocodone. The 16-year-old was charged for trespassing and violation of probation but did not appear to be facing any drug-related charges. The remaining two adults, who were identified as a 54-year-old man and a 31-year-old man, were charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and with intent to sell marijuana.

The report stated that several of the individuals had outstanding warrants when they were taken into custody. At the time that the report was released, it appeared that all of the accused individuals remained in custody at the Polk County Jail.

When someone is facing charges associated with drug crimes, they may also be facing a jail sentence and an extensive probation. In some cases, the accused person may be able to fight the charges against them by either providing proof that the drugs did not belong to them or that they were not involved in any illegal drug activities. Otherwise, depending upon whether or not they have a past criminal record, they may also be able to negotiate a sentence that includes rehabilitation in lieu of a jail sentence.
