Traffic stop leads to drug charges for woman in Florida

When an individual is confronted with criminal charges, he or she may feel blindsided by the situation and unsure as to how to proceed. Luckily, individuals who are facing drug charges are given a future court date and should be able to prepare by the time they make their appearances. During this time of preparation, parties may hope to learn more about the charges, the circumstances under which the charges were leveled and their legal choices.

One woman in Florida may be preparing for her court appearance after she was taken into custody. It was reported that she was driving a vehicle when she was stopped due to a headlight problem. After being stopped, authorities reportedly determined that the woman was driving on a suspended license. As a result, she was arrested.

After taking the woman into custody, authorities searched the vehicle. During that search, police allegedly found four round pills that were later determined to be a prescription drug. The woman claimed that she did not know that the drugs were in the vehicle. Nonetheless, she was charged with driving on suspended license as well as possession of a controlled substance.

As the woman's case moves forward, she may want to take the steps to ensure that the proper procedures were carried out by the officers responding to the situation. If there is doubt about whether those procedures were properly followed, certain evidence against the woman could potentially be ruled inadmissible at trial. Furthermore, the woman may find information on other defense strategies with regard to the Florida drug charges beneficial.
