Pair faces murder charges

Two Florida residents have now been charged in connection with an alleged homicide that is believed to have taken place on Feb. 6. According to law enforcement officials, the two defendants allegedly took the life of their 69-year-old roommate and then continued to stay in the home with the deceased woman's body for the two weeks that followed.

The incident took place in the 1100 block of Engman Street in Clearwater during the early morning hours following the Super Bowl. As days passed, neighbors noticed that the 42-year-old man and 44-year-old woman were using the decedent's vehicle. Witnesses also say that during this time, the deceased woman's possessions were removed from her home and placed in the yard by the two charged individuals.

Investigators collected evidence at the scene on Feb. 20 as the charged individuals were being held at the Pinellas County Jail pending a court date on Feb. 21. The man is charged with first-degree murder, and the woman is charged with accessory after the fact to first-degree murder. Both charges are felonies.

Detectives in the case have indicated that the man has allegedly admitted to shooting the owner of the home with whom both of the defendants lived. Florida residents who find themselves charged with a crime may find it most beneficial to defer speaking to investigators until representation by legal counsel has been secured. An attorney who practices criminal law may be able to examine the evidence and determine a viable defense strategy that could ultimately lead to a favorable outcome for the client. The attorney could also see that the client's rights are protected throughout the legal process.
