Man charged with drug trafficking tries to hide cash in rectum

A Florida man who was taken into custody on suspicion of drug possession on Aug. 26 was also accused of attempting to hide a large amount of money from the police. It appeared that the man attempted to hide multiple $20 bills in his rectum.

A deputy reportedly conducted a traffic stop on the man's white Buick after he was observed speeding on East Highway 41. When the deputy went to talk to the man, the deputy reported that there was the odor of marijuana present. During the search of the vehicle, about 197 grams of methamphetamine, 4 grams of heroin and rock cocaine was discovered. The man also had a small amount of marijuana and cash on his person when he was taken into custody.

When police arrived at the Marion County Jail, the money that had been on the man's person had disappeared. Detention deputies reportedly noticed $20 bills falling out of the man's buttocks. The deputies eventually found about $1,090 in cash. The accused man was charged with trafficking methamphetamine and heroin. He was also facing charges for possession of cocaine with intent to sell, possession of marijuana and smuggling contraband into a detention facility.

In Florida, drug crimes are taken very seriously and often have severe consequences if a person is convicted. For example, those convicted on serious drug charges could face jail time and major fines. However, a criminal law attorney could potentially create doubt about the evidence that was collected at the time the defendant was taken into custody. If the authorities did not follow proper procedures when securing evidence, some of the evidence could actually be suppressed in court. This could potentially lead to dismissed or reduced charges.
