Residents of Fort Lauderdale may be interested in a drug case that is unfolding in the middle of the Florida Keys. According to news sources, two people are facing charges after authorities discovered cocaine in their possession in separate locations. The series of events that led to the arrests began on May 18 at approximately 9 p.m.
Sources say that Kingsail Resort motel staff contacted Monroe County Sheriff’s Office deputies after a 21-year-old woman and 27-year-old man entered a hotel room on the premises without remitting payment. When the deputies responded to the scene, the woman reportedly answered the door and allowed them access to the room. There, the law enforcement officials discovered a pipe and 4.4 grams of cocaine.
Reports indicate that the man had left the room prior to the deputies’ arrival. Officials later detained him on the Overseas Highway near 82nd Street in Marathon. During the investigation that followed, the officials found 2 grams of cocaine inside the man’s vehicle. According to reports, each of the individuals has been charged with burglary and drug possession.
