Authorities take 2 into custody on drug charges

Authorities in Florida took two people into custody after they were found running a drug house out of a mobile home in Ocala. The house allegedly had a drive-thru service in addition to a walk-up window. After conducting a search of the residence on Aug. 24, authorities found paraphernalia and cash in addition to controlled substances. This led police to believe that the two were selling fentanyl.

There had been a string of overdoses that had been connected to the mobile home. Overall, there have been 98 overdoses in Ocala in 2018 with 13 resulting in a person's death. Authorities are not yet certain if any of the fatal overdoses can be traced back to the home where the pair were operating their drug business. The two were charged with possession and sale of fentanyl.

Those who charged with drug crimes could face serious penalties if they are convicted. For instance, it may be possible to spend time in jail or prison. It is also possible that a fine or probation will be included in a sentence. A conviction may have secondary effects such as stripping a person of a right to own a gun or vote in an election. Individuals who are facing any sort of criminal charge have the right to legal counsel.

An attorney may be able to help a defendant obtain a favorable outcome in his or her case. This may be done by asking for evidence to be suppressed or by casting doubt on witness testimony. If an individual is found not guilty of a charge, his or her record may be sealed. This could make it easier to get a job or enroll in school after a case is resolved.
