Women detained in connection with Florida Rolex theft

Two women have been held on charges for stealing a Rolex from a tourist in Key West in May. Both women were reportedly unable to make bond. In addition to this theft, the women have been accused of participating in a South Florida crime ring. According to reports, the ring involves a group of women who visit bars, drug men's drinks and steal their valuables.

Authorities note that the sheriff's office in Broward and the police department in Fort Lauderdale are building cases against the women in their respective jurisdictions. They have been already been charged in Broward. In the latest incident, a man reportedly met the women at a bar and escorted them to his boat after having a few drinks. They struggled to remove his watch, causing him to fall on the dock. Witnesses reportedly observed the incident, noting the number of the cab the women entered as they fled. Police were called and were able to intercept the cab.

Charges pending in this incident include robbery and use of another individual's identification. Each woman's bond has been set at or above $60,000. Reports do not indicate whether the watch was recovered when the women were detained. Officials also note that an acquaintance and potential cohort of the women has been allegedly involved in a recent Rolex theft similar to this incident.

As authorities endeavor to connect these women to similar crimes, the women may be concerned about obtaining a fair trial for these and other incidents. Working with a defense attorney may be important to ensure that their rights are observed throughout the legal proceedings. An attorney may attempt to negotiate a plea bargain in order to have charges in some of the situations dropped or to secure lesser penalties.
