2 detained in connection with Florida business burglary

Officials in Fort Myers were called to the scene of a potential burglary in progress on the evening of June 6. An individual reportedly contacted 911 around 8 p.m. regarding two men seen within a truck company's fenced compound. As officers arrived, they called to the individuals, but the men reportedly fled in different directions.

One of the men allegedly held a spool of copper wire but dropped it as he fled. The 45-year-old man was caught and detained by officers after they discovered him inside of a bus on the property. The other 45-year-old man at the scene was also found and detained. Both men have been held on charges of grand theft and burglary. One of the men was also charged with possessing drug paraphernalia. Officers reportedly found a pipe that is often associated with the use of crack-cocaine on his person.

Current reports do not indicate whether either of these men has a previous record of issues such as drug convictions or burglary. They did not note whether legal representation has been obtained by either man. As they face these charges, they may find that it is helpful to work with an experienced criminal lawyer. Such representation may be important as the reports of their detention are evaluated for any potential violations of their rights. Additionally, a criminal lawyer may be able to effectively negotiate for reduced charges or lesser penalties.

The outcome of this case is not necessarily predictable at this point, and each man's defense may be based on his personal history. A defendant is entitled to a court-appointed lawyer if the cost of legal representation is not manageable, but it may be preferable to invest in the services of a lawyer who is experienced with cases involving burglary and theft.
