Man charged for drug possession after raid

A man who was wanted for narcotics sales and possession charges in Florida has been arrested for similar charges in Georgia. Before making the arrest, police in Valdosta reportedly received several tips about drug activity taking place at the man's residence on University Drive. The Valdosta Police Department Narcotics Unit began an investigation into the alleged drug crimes, and detectives were then issued a search warrant.

Several different units of the VPD conducted a search of the man's home on Aug. 1. State of Georgia probation officers were also there to assist with the raid. Authorities allegedly seized 95.2 grams of marijuana, 1.9 grams of crack cocaine, 3.8 grams of powdered cocaine and 26 hydrocodone pills. A 9mm firearm was also allegedly seized from the man's property.

As a result of the drugs seized during the raid, the man was charged with possession of marijuana with intent to sell, possession of cocaine with intent to sell and possession of a Schedule II narcotic. The man was also booked on two gun-related charges and was processed into the Lowndes County Jail.

A criminal law attorney might be able to help someone who is facing drug charges that resulted from a police raid. In some cases, mistakes made by detectives before and during a raid could be cause enough for a judge to find that the operation was unlawful. If the search that was conducted was not legal, any evidence gathered during the search would not be admissible in court, and drug possession charges may be dropped. A criminal law attorney may also be able to help negotiate a plea bargain, where certain charges may be dropped in return for a guilty plea.
