Florida man busted after months-long drug investigation

According to the Brevard County Sheriff's Office, a lengthy investigation into drug activity has resulted in the arrest of a Merritt Island man. The 19-year-old man was taken into custody on July 18 following the execution of a search warrant on his home.

Law enforcement officers with the special investigations unit, a confidential informant and undercover officers reportedly made multiple purchases of drugs from the man over a period of nearly six months, beginning with a purchase of heroin on Jan. 31. The police reportedly recovered heroin, cocaine, fentanyl and cannabis. They also reportedly recovered a firearm and baggies that contained drug residue when they searched the man's home and bedroom. Police also seized $1,450 in cash.

The man is facing multiple charges, including possession of cocaine with the intent to deliver, trafficking in heroin and possessing a controlled substance without a prescription. He is currently being held in custody in lieu of $245,000 bail.

Drug crime allegations that involve sales may lead to harsh penalties if the people are convicted as charged. People who are facing drug charges might want to consult with criminal defense attorneys who have experience in these types of matters. The attorneys may understand the ways in which the police are supposed to investigate the cases and to conduct the searches and seizures. They may review the evidence in the case and the police reports to make initial determinations of whether the investigations, searches and seizures were conducted properly. If they identify problems with the conduct of the police, they may file evidentiary motions to challenge the admissibility of the evidence that was gathered and that is being used against their clients.
