Criminal charges can have a considerable impact on a person’s life, especially if he or she is convicted. If these charges come about at a young age, many aspects about that individual’s future could be marred by the marks on his or her record. If a person faces felony charges, the outcome of court proceedings could be even more impactful than if a party was facing a lesser charge.

Two students from Florida State University are currently facing felony charges for sexual battery. It was reported that the two 19-year-old individuals allegedly asked a young woman for directions before the reportedly took her behind a brick column and purportedly battered her. The woman stated that she told both of the individuals to stop during the event.

The young woman reported the event to campus police and was taken to an area hospital to be examined. Authorities visited one of the suspects who allegedly stated that he had gone out with another suspect but that he did not remember much of the evening. Surveillance video allegedly showed the two men in the area in which the alleged incident took place. Both have been charged with sexual battery.

These felony charges could have serious impacts on the lives of these young men, and they may wish to determine how to proceed legally. Information on how criminal proceedings for sexual battery are carried out in Florida may help them gain a better idea of what to expect from their situation. They may also wish to determine whether they would like to create defenses against the allegations and what steps they may take to do so.
