Individuals facing drug charges after police search Florida home

Creating a criminal defense is a crucial consideration when an individual has been accused of criminal activity. Two individuals in Florida may be working on their defenses alongside their respective defense counsels after recently having drug charges brought against them. It was reported that authorities arrived at the couple’s residence in order to look for another individual, and while there, they conducted a search of the home.

During the search, police allegedly found drugs and related paraphernalia, including items purportedly used to pass drug tests. The paraphernalia was reportedly in “plain view” during the search. Police tested the items, and the tests allegedly indicated a positive result for methamphetamine. The authorities then reportedly requested to do a further search for drugs, and the couple allegedly consented to the search.

Purportedly, police found additional drugs and related items under the man’s pillow and in the woman’s purse. It was also noted that these items were apparently within the reach of a 5-year-old child. The two individuals allegedly stated that they had been using methamphetamine for about a year. As a result, the man and woman were taken into custody on charges of drug possession, possession of drug paraphernalia and child neglect. A family member came to pick up the child.

The drug charges that have been filed against the man and woman could come with steep penalties if convictions occur. Therefore, the individuals will likely want to take steps to work toward a favorable outcome. Learning more about the charges, criminal defense options and Florida criminal proceedings could help in determining which routes each individual would like to follow in his or her own behalf.
