Seven Florida residents were arrested during a drug bust in Wakulla County in February. The operation came about after several citizens complained about alleged drug activity on a residential street in the area.

According to the Wakulla County Sheriff’s Office, detectives executed a search warrant at a home on Summer Lane in the early morning hours of Feb. 15. During the search, they seized several packages of suspected methamphetamine, several packages of suspected marijuana, a syringe, a digital scale and smoking devices. As a result, seven of the eight people living at the home were taken into custody.

The defendants, five men and two women, are facing various drug charges, including trafficking in methamphetamine, possession with the intent to sell methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia and maintaining a public nuisance place where controlled substances are illegally kept, sold or used. One of the female defendants also had two outstanding warrants out for her arrest. The eighth person found in the home, a woman, could be charged in the future. However, she was recovering from a serious car accident injury at the time of the raid.

Individuals facing drug charges often feel frightened and confused, which could tempt them to plead guilty. However, it may be better for defendants to exercise their right to remain silent and contact a criminal defense attorney for help. The attorney may review the case and explain all defense options available. In some cases, it might make sense to fight the charges and try to get the case dismissed or win an acquittal at trial. In other cases, it may be advisable to negotiate a plea deal the reduces the charges, which could lead to a more lenient sentence.
